Error 503: Josh Is A Doofus...
Ok, so this post is gonna cover everything that's happened since the last post and now (which is quite a bit), so get ready. It seems that with my other project nearing it's launch date, it's becoming harder and harder to divvy up my time between both projects equally. This has been pretty clear in the fact that SexyBookmarks hasn't been updated nearly as much as I would have liked to lately.
I know this sucks for you guys, but I'm doing my best. Anyway, I've recently updated the plugin (which I'm sure you guys have already downloaded by now) that fixes quite a few bugs and adds several new features as well. This in itself was no easy task, as it seemed that the SVN didn't like me at the time. It took me several new version releases to get the SVN updated "correctly", and then Norman had to come along behind me and clean up my mess. Don't ask me, I have no clue... I guess it was a SVN conspiracy against me or something... Anyway, it's fixed now and hopefully I won't encounter such conspiracies gain in the near future.
Bugs Fixed/Features Added in v2.5.3.3
Added i18n / l10n support
This has been a long awaited feature addition that took quite a while to accomplish due to the lack of real "instruction" on how to implement it in the WordPress codex. Sorry for the wait!
Added Russian translation and several popular Russian bookmarking sites
Thanks to Yuri Gribov for translating the plugin and offering several suggestions for Russian based bookmarking sites!
Added DesignMoo to the list
Added bit.ly integration
The plugin now allows you to enter your bit.ly user ID and API key so that you can track stats on the links you shorten
Fixed *most* plugin conflicts due to jQuery incompatibility
There are still a few conflicts that we've yet to solve, but this update fixed the majority of them.
Known Bugs in v2.5.3.3
Conflicts with jQuery sliders and faders
No matter how hard we try, we can't seem to work out ALL of the plugin/theme conflicts related to jQuery. This latest release fixed the vast majority of them, but there have been a few reports of persistent conflicts that we've yet to find a solution to.
Plugin doesn't pull correct post titles when using Shopplugin.net shopping cart plugin
I'm assuming this one is still broken, but have yet to receive any confirmation of the fact.
Now, please take note that the above lists were ONLY for v2.5.3.3, and the last version I posted about was v2.5.2.3 which was quite a while ago. The reason for this is because of the streak of bad luck I seemed to run into lately. First, when applying the update for v2.5.3 to the SVN, there was an issue with the CSS due to the fact that we tried to remove all of the !important statements from our stylesheet. However, for some reason unknown to us, when most themes loaded the styles they didn't seem to cascade properly as they should. So we had to add the !important rules back in to fix that.
The next bit of bad luck came when I attempted to update the SVN with v2.5.3.1 which included the fix mentioned above. I have no clue why, but it seemed that the SVN was plotting against me and made it extremely difficult for me to get anything done. First it applied the entire contents of our repository into the tag update, and then wouldn't actually update the tag after I had removed it. This led to me having to release YET ANOTHER tag update JUST to remove the repository from the tag.
Norman then had to add a couple of CSS fixes that I had missed and release another update (v2.5.3.3) to clear everything up and get things back on track. Once all that was done, I then decided to tinker with my server settings at the root level... BAD IDEA.
I wound up breaking the site (which I'm sure most of you already realized) and have spent the last 3 or 4 days trying to fix it. I've finally got most everything restored from backups, but had to recreate quite a few things manually. The contact forms are all new, so hopefully they're going to work properly. Anyway, just an update to let you all know what the heck happened. Let's hope it never happens again, eh?

Hey Josh, glad to see you are back up. I’m a total fan of this plugin, but unfortunately for me, it breaks the ajax in the admin section with this new update. :(
09/20/09
Hmm, are you using v2.5.3.3?
We included a compatibility fix in v2.5.3.3 that didn’t exist in previous versions… So it should work properly.
09/21/09
I expected to read how you broke the website… wanted a good laugh ;)
09/21/09
haha, I decided not to post it for a reason… I didn’t want people who already KNEW what messing with this particular setting would do to make fun of my ignorance… LOL
09/21/09
Josh,
2.5.3.3 breaks something in my site. All pages do have the SBM, but none of the blog posts or blog pages do. I do use sliders, but disabling them did not hange this, neither did returning to default theme.
Help!
09/21/09
I just took a look at your site, and it seems to be displaying properly to me… Maybe clear your cache?
09/21/09
hmmm -__-” still the same error: ” An unknown error occurred ” thats a pitty …
09/21/09
Is this error in the dashboard or on the front end of the site itself?
09/22/09
in the dashboard on the “sexybookmark” setting page :(
09/23/09
Would you mind shooting me an email via the contact form? I can discuss your issue with you in depth via email.
09/21/09
Hello,
I have the latest version of sexy bookmarks but the settings never get saved, I tried clearing cache but it does not work.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks!
09/21/09
Are you getting any errors at the top of the page when you attempt to save your settings? If so, what do they say?
09/21/09
Yes, I get this message, which seems unrelated to the issue I think:
We’re currently working on a more sophisticated solution for the email link and will re-enable it when finished.
09/21/09
@Omar:
It’s not unrelated actually, because we’ve removed the email link until we can work out some of the bugs and improve the overall functionality of it.
Since this is the case, you should notice in your list of icons, 2 separate “Newsvine” icons (green with a white vine). Since the email has been removed, it will default to whichever icon is in the very first position of the sprite, which happens to be newsvine…
What you’ll need to do is hover your mouse over each of the newsvine icons in the list, and look for the one that doesn’t have any alt/title text that pops up when you hover over it.
Whichever one doesn’t say anything when you hover over it, uncheck the box under that icon. You should then be able to save your changes.
We’re working on the email button and will re-enable it soon, but for now, there were just far too many bugs with the way it was implemented. This is why we’re working on a different system of implementation.
Thanks!

I am using 2.5.3.3
Sad to say :(
It was working perfectly before i upgraded.
09/25/09
I guess I must have missed this comment for a while, so I apologize. Have you attempted deactivating all other plugins other than SexyBookmarks to see if it was just a plugin conflict?
09/23/09
Hi Josh
thanks 4 the plugin , is great !
mine is all working fine, well sort of :(
heres my problem , IF I choose Bit.ly , enter my ID an API , i am getting an errror message ( its paste under )

sorry for my bad english, i’m still learning :)
thank you for yor time and for the plug
09/24/09
It seems as though I’m having some issues with the bit.ly API calls, please select another URL shortening service until I can get this fixed.
Thanks!
09/25/09
Hello Josh,
Great work man…
An other call for duty :D
I also have a problem with shortening my URLs using Bit.ly. It doesn’t short it at all and I get the same long link althoug I entered my user and API. Nevertheless, it works fine with other URL shortenings. Any fix soon? :)
09/23/09
sorry I forgot, I also clean my cache , i also unistall and deactivate the plugin, then install all agaian and still getting the same problem

Hi Josh,
I downloaded the latest version of your plugin (V.Nice) and all works fine on my site, but in my feed, the Twitter bookmark is causing issues. I get the following

Please select another URL shortening service, also select the “Clear all short URLs” option.
At this time, there is an issue that I’m currently sorting out with http://e7t.us which required a fresh install of the system.
It should be up running soon, but the above directions will fix the problem until that time.
09/25/09
BTW Josh, why it only shortens for Twitter? I mean it doesn’t shorten for Facebook, Google, Linkdin, etc…
09/25/09
Twitter is the only one that really “needs” shortening. All of the other bookmarking/social sites offer infinite* space for your URL, so there’s really no need to shorten them.
However, if it’s more of an “aesthetics” thing, where you’re wanting a “clean” looking URL for all of the posts, then I may run a poll soon to see how other people would feel about this option.
If many people seem to think it would be a good idea, I’ll look into adding it.
09/25/09
Hello again. I hope that I’m not becoming your nightmare :D
I tried to play around with your plugin to fix the bit.ly issue and it worked with me ;)
I modified this plugin file: sexybookmarks/public.php and altered line number 16 by removing this &format=json
Could you please let me know if this will do some bad behavior for the plugin?
Why did I remove it? Because I’ve checked the latest Shortening method from bit.ly and it didn’t mention the &format=json variable thing so I just removed it.
Cheers.
09/25/09
Hi, sorry for the late reply…
The problem with bit.ly is actually a bug. I’ve already found the issue and will be releasing an update soon that will fix it.
Your fix will work temporarily, but once we release the update it will be overwritten.
I have tested the fix, and it does work, so there shouldn’t be any problems.
The root of the problem was that the array keys were inserting a blank space in the URL thus breaking it. (simple, eh?)
09/25/09
Your rock :)
and thanks for considering the shortening for all bookmarks.

Can any one help on this error for the twitter link (using version 2.5.3.3):-
Not Found
The requested URL /create.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
” rel=”nofollow” class=”external” title=”Tweet This!”>Tweet This!

That issue has been fixed in v2.5.3.4 so you’ll need to upgrade to fix it.
Also, when you upgrade, you’ll need to go the plugin options page for SexyBookmarks and click the “Reset all short URLs” option and save your changes.
This will ensure that any of the erroneous URLs that may have been stored in the DB will be removed and make way for new ones.

Hey Josh,
I can confirm that that Shopp http://shopplugin.net/ is still not working. It isn’t just post titles, it doesn’t grab the full post URL either.
Shopp uses some kind of custom page redirect, so domain.com/shop/ is a wp page with a quicktag on it. Items show up at domain.com/shop/item-name, but they don’t physically exist in WP as posts or pages.
Most social plugins don’t have a problem with this, but SB does. Not sure what Sexy Bookmarks is doing differently that makes it not work though.
10/1/09
Thanks for the plugin. What happened to the “Send To A Friend” e-mail button?
10/2/09
It’s been disabled until we can work out a less “error prone” solution.
09/22/09
Both newsvine icons are unchecked, but the error still appears. I tried checking one, and unchecking the other, and same thing. Any ideas? (I also had the same issue prior to this latest release)
